Transforming the Ordinary: Poetry Workshop & Reading

March 7, 2019
5:30 PM - 7:00 PM

Hotel Emma Library, 136 E Grayson St, San Antonio, TX 78215

Pablo Neruda’s poems show how language breathes new life into common things. In this workshop, local poet Linda Simone will help unlock your powers of observation to discover the poetry in everyday objects — an apple, a fork, or your favorite novel. Linda will also read from her new poetry collection The River Will Save Us. Join us in the Library, surrounded by beloved books, for savory bites, a glass of wine, and the opportunity to work with and learn from an award-winning poet.

Bio: Poet Linda Simone has crossed many borders — from Manhattan to San Antonio, and from corporate writer to watercolorist. She captures these transformations in her collection of poetry The River Will Save Us. Author Paul David Atkins described the book’s “shimmering trails [that] transport readers on a series of journeys.” Simone’s poems have been included in Poet Laureate Laurie Ann Guerrero’s signature project, “Love Poems to San Antonio” and on the move as young artists’ illustrations for public bus cards in San Antonio and Norwalk, Connecticut. Her poems are also featured in San Antonio’s Tricentennial chapbook and exhibition at Plaza de Armas, now through April 27th.

Tickets: $15.
